Chikara Yasuda Scholarship

The Chikara Yasuda Scholarship is given in memory of Chikara Yasuda who served on the Calumet Council Summer Camp Staff at Kishwaukee Scout Reservation. In addition to serving on Summer Camp staff, Chikara was the first international Scout elected into Michigamea Lodge #110.

Because of the excellent qualities and concern for others that Chikara showed, to those of us on Camp Staff with him, and because of his great Scouting abilities, we of Michigamea Lodge offer this fund for a Scout to go to camp because we know Chikara would not want to see anyone miss the excitement of Camp.

This scholarship pays the full registration cost of attending one week of summer camp for one scout in the Calumet Community each year, whose name will be added to the Chikara Yasuda Scholarship Plaque at the Calumet Coummunity scout office.

Applications due on May 1st.

Christopher Bieker May Campership

The purpose of the Campership is to provide financial assistance to Scouts so that they may participate in a Boy Scout Council long term camping program. It is awarded to deserving scouts in memory of Christopher Bieker May who as a member of the Fulton County Police Department in Atlanta, Georgia, died in the line of duty in 1991.

Christopher was very active in our Scouting community by starting as a Cub Scout in Pack 221 from Hammond, Indiana. He later became a member of Boy Scout Troop 221 and progressed through the Scouting ranks eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout. During his time in Scouting he became a member of the Order of the arrow. He graduated from Wabash College in 1986 and started his career in civic responsbility as a police officer. In 1991, he was preparing to enter the field of Federal Drug Enforcement but tragically was killed in the line of duty.

The scholarship fund is being offered to Scouts, who may take the opportunity to fully experience Scouting at camp, and thus round out their goals and ambitions as Scouts. This will honor Christopher, who exemplified the Scouting ideals of valor and honor.
